导演奈尔.乔丹通过《因父之名》传达了一个政治理念：反对暴力和恐怖的对抗手段，支持和平和法律的途径。虽然Gerry初识IRA头目的时候，多次参与了监狱里的暴力活动，但在IRA头目把监狱长烧成残废之后，Gerry终于认识到他的残酷和冷血，和他划清界限，并积极配合律师为自己翻案。
在四部爱尔兰电影里我之所以最喜欢《因父之名》，因为片中的几个场面太感人、太煽情了，呵呵。其中一个场面是艾玛.汤普森扮演的律师在为Gerry辩护时的激情控诉，这段我反复看了好多遍，下面是这个片段的视频，英语好的同学可以欣赏一下。

丹尼尔.戴-刘易斯扮演的Gerry Conlon从法庭出来后的演说也激情四射，没有人能不被他的凛然正气和勇敢所打动。可惜Youtube没有这段视频，我把原文放在下面：

片尾曲是爱尔兰著名歌手Sinéad O’Connor唱的，她的声音很有磁性、很特别，很容易听出来。在另一部爱尔兰电影《Michael Collins》里，Sinéad O’Connor也唱了几首。
